ACL 2013 Official Late Night Shows: Top Picks for Weekend 1

Austin City Limits Festival is right around the corner, and now that there are two weekends of music instead of one, the fest is poised to be bigger than ever. One of the best byproducts of this transition is there are now also twice as many Official Aftershows. Whether attending the fest or just hitting late night action, the Aftershows are a perfect way to see a favorite band without too large of a crowd. This year’s lineup is stacked with a bevy of options, but we’re breaking it down to help make the decision making process a bit easier. Tickets will fly off the shelves Friday, August 23 beginning at 10am sharp so be prepared to move quickly!

Check out the full lineup of Late Night Shows and buy tickets here. Ginny’s Austin nightly picks are listed below!

Pro Tip: If planning to attend an Aftershow post-fest, you will most likely need to leave Zilker Park before fest is officially over to make it to the venue in time – something to consider if your top act of the fest is the headliner that day!

Thursday, October 3

**Bright Light Social Hour w/Reignwolf and Walker Lukens at Emo’s Austin – Not a huge Reignwolf fan, but both BLSH and Walter Lukens are two of Austin’s best local acts.

Friday, October 4

**HAIM + MS MR at Antone’s: Two of my favorite new bands of 2013 at one show? Yes please! Both these indie pop/rock acts would be a must-see on their own, but together they take the cake for Pick of the Night.

Other Friday highlights include:

Wild Belle at Lambert’s: Lambert’s is a perfect venue for this 2012 ACL fest favorite, featured here.

Wild Nothing w/Autre Ne Veut at the Parish – A more laidback experience of the bunch; Hard to go wrong with either these bands.

Saturday, October 5

**The National – Not only is their latest album fantastic, but The National is just always one of those bands that deliver live.

Other Saturday highlights include:

The Black Angels w/The Joy Formidable – Austin based Black Angels and The Joy Formidable are both excellent picks for those looking for something a little more rock ‘n roll.

Sunday, October 6

Paper Diamond w/Run DMT at Haven– If you’re still standing, you’ve got one option to close out Weekend 1.
