Saturday Picks Here

11:30 AM The Features – Honda Stage:

12:20 PM Kopecky Family Band – Austin Ventures Stage:

1:15 PM Stars – Barton Springs Stage:

2:15 PM Gary Clark, Jr. – AMD Stage: After playing the festival for years, Gary Clark, Jr. has seen his career blossom from for hometown hero to national acclaim. With his guitar in hand, Clark, Jr.’s ACL performances never disappoint, and this year will certainly be no different.

3:15 PM Tough call as two of my favorites, Polica and Tennis, both take the stage at 3:15…

Polica – Honda Stage: Electro/blues Polica made a splash at this year’s SXSW, and it’s great to see the band back for ACL. Led by Channy Leaneagh’s transcendent vocals, Poliça produces a sound that is somehow morose, enlivening, and flat out addictive all at the same time.

Tennis – Barton Springs Stage: Denver based husband and wife duo Tennis’ music is easy listening, lo-fi indie rock with just enough of something special to make them standout.

4:15 PM

Two Door Cinema Club – Bud Light Stage:

The Civil Wars – AMD Stage: Nashville duo The Civil Wars is known for their beautiful harmonies and powerful songwriting. Should be a great set!

4:30 PM Michael Kiwanuka – Austin Ventures: Another 2012 SXSW breakout makes his return to Austin! British singer/songwriter Michael Kiwanuka’s soulful music is both recognizable and unexpected. It’s retro enough to draw comparisons from artists like Otis Redding, but his songwriting and voice are fresh. Add him to the list.

5:00 PM The Lumineers – Austin Ventures Stage: Despite their obvious commercial appeal, The Lumineers are much more than a formulaic record label indie rock band. Their self-titled debut album is a well balanced mixed with heartbreaking, honest ballads and catchy anthems, which makes them one of my must see acts of the weekend.

6:15 PM

Old 97s – Austin Ventures Stage:

Iggy & The Stooges – Bud Light Stage:

The Avett Brothers – AMD Stage: Having just seen the Avett Brothers at Summerfest this year, I am flipping a coin between the others, but I will say the Avett Brothers were an excellent festival headliner.

8:15 PM Red Hot Chili Peppers – Bud Light Stage: Talk about ending the fest on a high note! Until next year…
