The Bonneville

After quietly opening around the start of the year, The Bonneville might have fallen trap to being overlooked in the mix of all the other bold-named hot spots popping up around town. However, The Bonneville, helmed by husband-and-wife team Chris Hurley and Jennifer Costello, has steadily grown in popularity, thanks in no small part to their ‘less is more’ approach to serving sophisticated yet unpretentious dishes that allow each ingredient to shine. In addition to an array of nightly specials, The Bonneville’s menu includes a number of well-executed favorites: appetizers such as bacon & egg ravioli and Fredericksburg peach salad ($8-$10); seasonally inspired grilled flatbreads ($11-$13); and heartier entrées like Boudreaux braised short ribs ($18-$24).

With its open, tranquil space and prime location nestled a mere stone’s throw from the shores of Lady Bird Lake, The Bonneville is also an ideal spot to take in Austin’s natural beauty – cocktail in hand – while avoiding breaking a sweat in the summer heat. I had the opportunity to do just that during a recent media event. Included on the summer cocktail menu are refreshing (though sweet) cocktails such as a cucumber laced Pepino Fresco and The Bonneville, a revamped paloma.
