Best Coast – The lo-fi/garage rock duo from California first gained serious momentum after Pitchfork raved about their single ‘Boyfriend’ (featured below). Cali’s answer to the NYU students turned rockers Cults, Best Coast is worth the trek to campus for their set at the Urban Outfitters Backlot Performance on Thursday, March 15 at 6PM. Taking place Wednesday through Saturday, the killer list of over 95 bands includes Top Picks like Of Monsters and Men, Youth Lagoon, Pond, J. Roddy Waltson and the Business, Heartless Bastards, Tennis, and many, many more.
The Hotel Vegas/Volstead Lounge Parties kick off on Wednesday, March 14 at 12PM (lineup). With sponsors like Hob Nob Wine, Brooklyn Brewery, and NadaMoo, there will be plenty of treats to enjoy along with the amazing lineups.

Yellow Ostrich began as a solo project from Chairs’ Alex Schaaf, but the band’s latest release features the additional talents of drummer Michael Trapper and the multi-musically talented John Nachtez. Schaaf’s patent lo-fi sound is now boosted with extra precussions and beats making Yellow Ostrich a band to catch during SXSW. With over 10 performances throughout the week, you will have plenty of opportunities, but the best will be Saturday, March 17 during The Launch Pad Day Show presented by Music Baeble.

Like KUT, Austin’s other premier radio station KGSR also is getting in on the SXSW Morning Show action. KGSR is taking over the W Hotel Austin for four full days of music in the morning. One of SXSW’s longest running music traditions is the annual South by San Jose day parties held on South Congress. Not only are there always great bands scheduled to play, but the South by San Jose parties are a great way to experience SXSW without having to full emerge oneself in the downtown/eastside madness. These are always laid back affairs; perfect for those visiting get a slice of the South Austin way of life, stroll through the stores of South Congress, and post up by San Jose Hotel and Jo’s Coffee Shop for great music, beer, and fun.
