Concert of the Week: Ha Ha Tonka @ Lambert’s 9/8

Speaking of Austin City Limits, one of my favorite acts of the 2011 festival, Ha Ha Tonka, is returning to Austin for a headlining set on September 8. As mentioned here, I am a fan of the Anthony Bourdain-approved Southern folk/rock band. My 2011 ACL was launched on a high note after watching the band’s early Friday set, which included a cover of Fiddle and a Band in the rain. While Southern rock’s mainstream revival makes for a crowded genre, Ha Ha Tonka’s authentic and emotionally captivating songwriting and shear musical talents make them transcendent over other similar groups. Hailing from the Ozarks, the band’s songs are filled with lessons learned from the sometimes bleak heart of Middle America, which can be felt through their melodic harmonies. These moments transfer beautifully on stage, but it’s the more rock laced moments when the band really comes alive.  Some are filled with raw fury while others hopeful anticipation, but all make for a great live set.

Ha Ha Tonka will play at Lambert’s on September 8. Tickets are $12 and available here.

While the Longhorns are in town, the show kicks off late, making it the perfect post-game event. Lambert’s BBQ + Football + Good Live Music = Perfect Saturday!
