Happenings: 2013 Austin Openings, Part II

With so many new restaurants, brewpubs, and bars opening in Austin these days, it is hard to keep up! The last full list of 2012 contained an overwhelming number of new spots to check out, but even that was almost outdated as soon as it was released. For this round of openings, I’m breaking it down by genre. Part I, found here, started with the latest watering holes. For Part II, we move on to mealtime with a handful of recently opened restaurants to check out.

Epicerie – The delightful café and grocery serves a well-priced menu of French Cajun dishes alongside a mouthwatering display of desserts and baked goods. The artisan grocery selections include a small but quality array of wine and beer, cheeses, charcuterie, and unique finds like red beans & rice kits. Quaint and inviting, Epicerie strikes a balance between the type of place one can go for a causal dinner or first date. Prices fall under $10-$15 with the exception of a couple larger dinner entrées under $20.

Winflo Osteria – Clarksville welcomed another new dining option this week with the opening of Italian eatery Winflo Osteria. The West 6th street restaurant focuses on classic Italian fare such as pizzas, pastas, and antipasti and an all-Italian wine list. Prices range from $12-$20 for dinner plates. Lunch and brunch service are in the works as well.

The Bonneville – In the spirit of new beginnings, The Bonneville opened its doors on New Year’s Eve. The restaurant features a ‘new American’ style menu at price points ranging from $8-$12 for small plates and pizzas and $18-$22 for entrées. The cocktails are crafty and the location is lakeside, making it a perfect post work spot to try out soon.

Michi Ramen – Considering nothing in Austin is hotter than a steaming bowl of hangover helper, it’s the perfect time to welcome Michi Ramen back into the fold. The former trailer eatery closed last year to prepare for its move to a bigger and better brick and mortar located on North Lamar. Current offerings include four types of ramen, including a vegetarian bowl, as well as a variety of add-ins and thickness options. Prices are $10 and under.

Michi Ramen is located at 6519 North Lamar, Austin TX 78752. 512.386.1908. http://www.michiramen.com
