Music Monday: Breakers by Local Natives

Today’s Music Monday Song of the Day is Breakers by Local Natives, which is the first single released by the band since their 2010 debut Gorilla Manor. Following a breakthrough showing at SXSW in 2009, the Local Natives returned to Austin for a series of fantastic shows, including an appearance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival and a headlining Stubb’s show. During the Stubb’s show the band proclaimed it would be the last trip to the Capitol city until they had new music to perform. Thankfully, it appears the wait is over as it was recently announced the Local Native’s new album Hummingbird is expected to drop in late January 2013. And, if Breakers is a preview of things to come, I’d say it’s a safe bet we can expect big things on the band’s follow up album. Breakers reflects a more polished, clean Local Natives, but present still are the captivating harmonies, bold percussions, and worldly indie-folk rock sound. While no Austin tour date has been announced as part of the Local Native’s 2013 tour just yet, something tells me one is more than certain to be on the horizon, especially since there are Houston and Dallas dates on the books coinciding with SXSW in March. Until then, enjoy Breakers by the Local Natives below.
