Procrastinators Guide to Valentine’s Day, Part II: Where to Eat

In case you have failed to notice the plethora of pink and red warning signs or the calendar reminder that was mysteriously added (thanks Apple…), this Friday is Valentine’s Day, and yes, you are officially behind the eight ball in planning. In case you’ve procrastinated (like me and this post), here are a few ways you can still win Valentine’s Day 2014 and live to fight another day.

While Friday night reservations might be hard to come by at this point, you can always make Hallmark proud by turning the V-day celebrations into a weekend long event. Start off the weekend with a token of your affection (suggestions found here) on Friday followed by an extra special dinner on Saturday. Most restaurants are offering Valentine’s Day Specials both nights of the weekend anyways!

Here are a few places that have openings as of Thursday, February 13, but I’d move fast if I were you!

Downtown restaurant Arro is always a solid date night choice, especially for Valentine’s weekend. The French bistro will feature a special $45 three-course V-day menu on Friday, but their French bistro-inspired menu is très romantic any day of the week. 512.992.2776

Foreign & Domestic always hosts one of the best (and most delicious) bang for your buck Valentine’s Dinners, and this year is no exception. Friday is booked, but there are a few spots left on Saturday evening! Get your tickets online or by calling 512.459.1010.

One of Austin’s most under the radar AND romantic restaurants is without a doubt Fabi + Rossi. Make plans to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the European bistro by visiting anytime after 5pm on Friday (no reservations accepted). Menu details can be found here. 512.236.0624.

Neighborhood Italian spot ASTI Trattoria will feature a number of romantic specials in addition to the regular menu. Limited availability on Friday and more options Saturday – Call 512.451.1218 for reservations.

Wine and dine your sweetheart by snagging a reservation at the Carillon on Saturday evening. Chef Watkins will be featuring a romance-infused prix fixed menu and wine pairings, priced at $130/per couple for 3-courses (wine $200/per couple) or $190/per couple for 5-courses (wine $300/per couple). Clarksville staple Cipollina has recently revamped their menu to feature a very affordable nightly three-course prix fixed menu, and what better time to give a try than this weekend. Check out amazing list of offerings here and call 512.477.5211 for reservations.

Enjoy an amazing cocktail on the lovely Hotel Ella’s wrap around porch before enjoying a special Valentine’s themed menu at Goodall’s Kitchen & Bar this weekend. The four-course menu is $99/per person and includes wine pairings. Call 512.628.4400 for reservations.

Need a way to apologize for not making plans on Friday? Then put the wine in wine & dine by heading to Max’s Wine Dive on Saturday. Call 512.904.0111 for reservations.

Go for gold by celebrating both the Olympics AND Valentine’s Weekend at Russian House this weekend. Friday’s booked but call 512.428.5442 for Saturday!

Paggi House boasts one of the best wine lists in Austin and are featuring V-day specials all weekend long to help your celebrate the one you love! Call 512.473.3700 for reservations.

Peche Austin is celebrating Valentine’s Day by featuring a number of decadant specials perfect for pairing with 20s-inpsired cocktails.  Call 512.494.4011 for reservations.

The Bonneville Valentine’s Day 2014 is featuring a$65 four-course prix fixe menu with wines pairing available for an additional $20/pp. Complimentary glass of bubbles upon arrival! Call 512.428.4643 for reservations.

Searsucker is featuring a four-course dinner for two priced at $100/per couple. In addition, the restaurant is also hosting a special “Heartbreak Brunch” on Sunday the 16 where 15% of all proceeds from the brunch will be donated to the Human Rights Campaign. Call 512.394.8000 for reservations.

Newly opened downtown, mentioned here, Italian spot Due Forni will serve a four-course menu that includes dishes like one of the restaurant’s gourmet pizzas. The dinner is $60/per person, and full menu details can be found here. Reservations can be made by calling 512.391.9300.
