Procrastinators Guide to Valentine’s Day, Part I: Sweet Treats

In case you have failed to notice the plethora of pink and red warning signs or the calendar reminder that was mysteriously added (thanks Apple…), this Friday is Valentine’s Day, and yes, you are officially behind the eight ball in planning. In case you’ve procrastinated (like me and this post), here are a few ways you can still win Valentine’s Day 2014 and live to fight another day.

While Friday night reservations might be hard to come by at this point, you can always make Hallmark proud by turning the V-day celebrations into a weekend long event. Start off the weekend with a token of your affection (suggestions below) on Friday followed by an extra special dinner on Saturday. Most restaurants are offering Valentine’s Day Specials both nights of the weekend anyways!

Skip generic box of chocolates and pick up one of these local treats to state the V-day off right!

Valentine's Day 2014

Valentine’s Day 2014

My personal favorite Valentine’s Day treat is hands down Amy’s Ice Cream’s Chocolate Covered Strawberries tradition. Each year, Amy’s Ice Cream pulls out all the stops to hand dip over 100,000 strawberries in the highest quality Callebaut chocolate before packaging them in cupid-approved boxes. Between the melt-in-your mouth chocolate and juicy strawberries, they are a treat even the most Valentine’s can’t help but love. The Chocolate Covered Strawberries are available by the dozen at $18/box and can be pre-ordered in less than two minutes online.

If pulling off this impressive operation isn’t enough, Amy’s Ice Cream has decided to up the ante this year by adding something extra special to their menu of offerings. In addition to Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Amy’s is featuring four different varieties of Chocolate Truffles in decadent flavors such as Salted Caramel, Dark Chocolate, Almond, and Mexican Vanilla. Each and every truffle is baked fresh in Amy’s new bakery, which opened in North Austin this past December. The Chocolate Truffles are available by the dozen at $22/per box and can be pre-ordered here.

Both the Strawberries and Truffles are available starting Wednesday, February 12 through Friday, February 14. Make plans to stop by one of Amy’s area locations to buy your treats. Preorder online for speedy checkout here.
