Bert’s West Campus location is back!

Relief from the 100 degree heat isn’t the only thing to look forward to this fall. September’s social calendar is chocked full of foodie events, new restaurant openings, and seasonal menu revamps.


Max’s Wine Dive new fall menu (found here) includes offerings such as Michelada-style braised pork cheeks, roasted sea bass served in a French onion broth, chanterelle mushrooms, and Brussels sprouts gratin. MAX’s Wine Dive is open for lunch from 11am to 2pm and dinner from 4pm to 12am Monday through Friday. Weekend hours include brunch from 10am to 3pm and dinner from 4pm to midnight on Saturday and 4pm to 10pm on Sunday. Max’s Wine Dive is located at 207 San Jacinto Boulevard, Austin, TX 78701. The Carillon Restaurant is offering an extra special way to sample Chef Josh Watkin’s new fall menu. During the Taste of September dinner series, The Carillon will offer a nightly three course dinner every evening for just $29. The dinner menu includes dishes such as seared scallops paired with apples, fennel jam, and Texas cherve and braised pork jowl with potato gratin.  Check out the full menu details hereThe Carillon is located at 1900 University Avenue, Austin, TX 78705.

The Downtown Hilton has jumped onboard with the local craft beer trend with the upcoming relaunch of the hotel’s Liberty Tavern. Opened this past Friday, September 7, the new Liberty Tavern features over 30 types of beer, including five local and two Texas varieties. In addition, the bar will feature a cocktail menu using primarily regionally based liquors to pair alongside a Texas inspired food menu. Liberty Tavern is located on 500 East 4th St in between Red River and Neches Streets.

Hyde Park Bar & Grill welcomed former Haddington’s Executive Chef Chris Turgeon this month. After working in several local restaurants including Max’s Wine Dive and Foreign & Domestic, Turgeon replaces longtime Hyde Park Grill Chef Marty Frannea who recently retired from the restaurant industry. The longtime restaurant has two locations in Austin, located at 4206 Duval and 4512 Westgate.

Bob’s Steakhouse (first mentioned here) is now opened downtown, located at 301 Lavaca Street, Austin, TX 78701. The Dallas-based steakhouse chain focuses on serving high quality steaks and fine wines in a lively, elegant atmosphere.

Put away your sad package of fried noodles and MSG flavor packets because Austin FINALLY has a ramen spot! Ramen Tatsu-ya is now open at 8557 Research Blvd. The new restaurant specializes in traditional ramen bowls and other small plates. Early reports have been beyond favorable, and judging by lines of folks waiting the doors to open nightly, the word is out. Tatsu-ya plans to open for lunch in the near future, but for now, the new spot is open Tuesday – Saturday 5pm-10pm. Check out Ramen Tatsu-ya on Facebook while their website is finalized.

Bert’s Bar-B-Q has reopened in the West Campus area after its original location burned a few years back. Additionally, Bert’s has a second location off of Far West Blvd. The new location is located at 907 W. 24th St., Austin, TX 78705. Turbos for all!

Last Sunday marked the grand opening of the Mueller Farmer’s Market. Hosted by, the Mueller Farmers’ Market will be open from 10am – 2pm every Sunday at the Browning Hangar off Airport Boulevard. The market’s offerings will include over 40 local and regional growers, ranchers, food artisans, and specialty vendors. More details here.

Italian restaurant Cherry Street is now open in the former Hog’s Island Deli spot (1612 Lavaca Street, Austin, TX). The well-priced eatery focuses on traditional antipastos, pizzas, and pastas as well as mixologist-approved cocktails. More details here.
