This music pick of the day is DC-based band Deleted Scenes. The quarlet heads to Austin on January 30 in support of their sophomore album Young People’s Church of the Air, a record that should be listened to on repeat. Deleted Scenes slightly chaotic sound jumps all over the map throughout the album, from the lo-fi, easy going Cali-rock ‘The Days of Adderall’ to the 80s-influenced ‘Burglarizing the Deaf’ to the experimental rock ‘The Demon and the Hurricane.’ It shouldn’t work, but somehow it does. Heady, dark, noisy numbers are followed by rhythmic, harmonious upbeat tracks and brought back to earth with vocal heavy indie rock songs. It’s no wonder Deleted Scenes have drawn comparisons ranging from Band of Horses, Talking Heads, Modest Mouse, and Animal Collective. It’s an original, cutting edge sound that deserves to be experienced firsthand. Don’t miss Deleted Scenes with A Lull and Tape Deck Mountain on stage at Mohawk on Monday, January 30. Tickets are$8 on sale now here.
