Summer Happenings: Austin Sound & Cinema

File this under reason #109824 I heart Austin…

Beginning next Wednesday, June 5, the newly announced summer movies in the park series, Austin Sound & Cinema, will kick off at the Long Center. These uniquely Austin events combine classic movies with film-inspired live music. Each event will kickoff with a sunset concert around 8pm followed by the night’s featured screening. Food and beverages (including alcohol) from vendors such as Frank, Blue Ox BBQ and Whole Foods will be available for onsite purchase beginning at 7pm. Guests are encouraged to BYO-blanket. Hosted by Alamo Drafthouse, Aquasana and Do512, these free, open to the public events will take place every other Wednesday for the next six weeks. Schedule after the jump!

Austin Sound & Cinema’s inaugural event on June 5th includes a screening of the 80’s classic The Labyrinth and warm up performance by David Bowie cover band SUPER CREEPS. Taking place on the lawn of the Long Center, the event opens to the public starting at 7pm. More details can be found here.

In the meantime…go ahead and practice your Magic Dance…
