Thanksgiving Happenings: Where to Watch the TCU/UT Football Game

Whether you’re searching for the perfect spot to watch the Texas Longhorns take on the TCU Horned Frogs or merely needing a break from too much family togetherness, here’s a list of places who will be open Thanksgiving evening for your viewing pleasure.

Update: The following places are usually open for holidays when the ‘horns are playing at DKR, but I have not confirmed this as fact quite yet. However –true story- my father threatened to unsubscribe to my blog if the Texas Chili Parlor wasn’t included on the list in some form or fashion. Clearly my TCP love is genetic…

Texas Chili Parlor – In my world, nothing pairs better with Texas Football than Drew Drinks at my favorite bar in town. 1409 Lavaca, Austin, TX 78701. 512.472.2828 Update: Confirmed; The TCP opens at 2PM

Abel’s on the Lake – Perfect spot for those looking for a game day spot but wanting to avoid the campus chaos. 3825 Lake Austin Blvd, Austin TX 512.904.0570

Shoal Creek Saloon – We all KNOW the Creole capitol will be packed with fans for Friday’s LSU game, but Shoal Creek is always a good time no matter whose playing. Order the garlic soup, thank me later. 909 N. Lamar, Austin TX 78703 Update: Confirmed; Shoal Creek opens at 5PM

Cover 3 Gourmet food doesn’t usually go hand in hand with the words ‘sports’ or ‘bar’ but North Austin’s Cover 3 shows they certainly can! Great TVs also. 512.374.1121 Update: Confirmed Closed for T-Day

Easy Tiger – Easy Tiger goes for the win this Thanksgiving by combining football, beer, baked goods, and live music throughout the day. The bakeshop will be open from 9am-2pm for any last minute needs before the Beer Garden opens at 4pm that afternoon. The Longhorn game will take center stage on the big screen inside in time for kick-off. Meanwhile, mosey outside at 7:30pm when the craft beer bar taps a cask of Sisyphus during Real Ale Night. Finally, keep the post-game good times going with Ben Balmer at 9:00pm. 709 East 6th Street, Austin TX 78701

The Tavern – Because you are never too far from 12th & Lamar, the Tavern is a perfect spot to catch the TCU/Texas game. Good burgers, ample parking, and cheap drinks are just a few reasons this is a top pick of mine no matter the week.

Scholz’s – Short on tickets, but still headed to tailgate? Scholz’s prime location makes it the perfect place to watch the game post-tailgate. 1607 San Jacinto Boulevard  Austin, TX 78701

AT&T Center – The bar at the AT&T Center/Carillon is as equally as logistically easy as Scholz’s as it is located on campus. A little fancier than a beer garden, but if you’re like me, those giant beers at Scholz’s will be a little too filling post Thanksgiving anyways!

The Driskill – See fancy note above, but at least you will be in the company of the Driskill’s outstanding martinis if things take a turn for the worse for the Longhorns on the field.  604 Brazos Street  Austin, TX 78701

Black Sheep Lodge – The South Lamar burger and beer staple will be open Thursday afternoon/evening. 2108 South Lamar, Austin TX 78704

Bar 96 – Opens at 2PM, leaving plenty of time to get ready to watch the game projected from Bar 96’s clutch backyard area. 96 Rainey, Austin, TX 78701

J Black’s – Centrally located, great TVs, solid eats…done. 710 West 6th Street, Austin TX 78701

Posse East – Posse East’s close proximity to campus make this spot a college student and alumni favorite. 2700 Duval, Austin, TX 78705 5124772111

Alamo Drafthouse – Lake Creek: The best part about watching the game in a dark theatre? No one will judge your post-turkey comfy pants. Win/Win. Tickets are on sale now.

Third Base – All locations; Solid amount of TVs showing different games and even more beers on tap
